to live with Kaori(meaning Fragrance in Japanese),<br \/>\na human female who has a dog, named Kona.It all happed by chance in a summer<br \/>\nafternoon.The windows were open, so I made an entry into her house, and they<br \/>\nlet me live there without any objection. I know that was because I was handsome.<br \/>\nFortunately, the female puppy Kona had never met a cat, and did not know how<br \/>\nfrightening I can be.<\/p>\n<p>She still keeps ignoring me. But i am not\u3000an animal that one could describe as<br \/>\na\u3000pet. Even in cold Winter, I don&#8217;t feel like\u3000going into Kaori&#8217;s bed as Kona does,\u3000<br \/>\nand don&#8217;t  allow anyone to stroke me.But I don&#8217;t have any objection to being\u3000<br \/>\ncalled &#8220;Toraja&#8221; When they call me by\u3000that name, I put all my heart into replying\u3000<br \/>\n&#8220;Mew!&#8221;and get decent food to eat.Well, all things considered, that&#8217;s not a\u3000bad deal. <\/p>\n<p>So, I became a scrounger.&#8221;Toraja&#8221; by the way means something like\u3000&#8221;a man on the<br \/>\nmountain&#8221;, and it seems as\u3000if it has something to do with the name of\u3000this town.<\/p>\n<p>Kaori, works in an office but is always\u3000fed up by the power struggles in her\u3000company.<br \/>\nOnce somewhere she experienced\u3000something similar to aromatherapy so\u3000she made up<br \/>\nher mind  to experiment\u3000with it herself in her own home.<\/p>\n<p>If you open magazines anywhere,\u3000you will see that aromatherapy is a\u3000flourishing<br \/>\n&#8220;healing&#8221; process in\u3000aesthetic salons, hair salons, and\u3000beauty parlours. It is a<br \/>\nhealing\u3000method,  which modern day humans\u3000rely on heavily for stress reduction.<\/p>\n<p>They smell fragrances of essential\u3000oils such as lavender, lemon and\u3000peppermint<br \/>\nand take massages by\u3000rubbing in such oils.It would appear that it must be a\u3000great<br \/>\nluxury for humans. For me, it&#8217;s\u3000only something smelly.<\/p>\n<p>Kaori is a dollar-store queen and buys\u3000everything for 100 yen in those stores.<br \/>\nAromatherapy manuals aroma pots,\u3000candles, sets of these smelly essential oils,\u3000<br \/>\netc., etc. She thus started using these to\u3000start her aromatherapy.<\/p>\n<p>On the first day it started like this.She\u3000dropped lavender oil directly in the\u3000<br \/>\naroma-pot, so the room was filled with a\u3000malodorous burning , smell and I<br \/>\nalmost\u3000became a black cat.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, my fur is striped like a tiger.&#8221;Hey, read the manual first!<br \/>\nMust put\u3000water in the aroma-pot, am I right?&#8221;I can&#8217;t stand this smell anyway!<\/p>\n<p>After that, Kaori bought a little more\u3000expensive lavender\u3000oil and began\u3000diffusing<br \/>\nthe fragrance in her room,\u3000using .something like an electric\u3000sprayer or diffuser.\u3000<br \/>\nThe smell of the new oil seemed a bit\u3000better than the 100 Yen variety, but\u3000for<br \/>\nme it was still a bad smell.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s so difficult to understand what\u3000humans are trying to do.\u3000Why do humans<br \/>\nenjoy such a thing?I was feeling listless these days.<\/p>\n<p>By practicing aromatherapy every night,\u3000it looked like something abnormal was\u3000<br \/>\nhappening to Kaori,too.What was going on,? Essenltial oils have\u3000grades of quality?\u3000<br \/>\nThere are 100% natural oils and\u3000adulterated  oils?If you use poor-quality<br \/>\nessential oils you\u3000have side effects instead of healing?<\/p>\n<p>Kaori realized that, and now having\u3000bought more expensive therapeutic essential<br \/>\noils, she is very satisfied, sleeping well at night, and her dog Kona also<br \/>\nsleeps soundly with her.<\/p>\n<p>But, be that as it may, I was feeling sick; maybe I ate something bad, and.<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t even need the best-quality aroma, so help me, help me anyway!<br \/>\nA few weeks later, I collapsed and when I became conscious, I was in a cage<br \/>\ninside an animal hospital.The diagnosis was simply hepatic disorder.<\/p>\n<p><em>Vet: Did you give this cat anything strange?<\/em><br \/>\nKaori: Nothing in particular. .. They are true carnivores. They don&#8217;t have enough enzymes to metabolize<br \/>\nplant components.Essential oils are extract of plant components, aren&#8217;t they?<br \/>\nCats cannot metabolize those components completely. Since I haven&#8217;t been<br \/>\nthere so long, I&#8217;ll go and tell them what I experienced at the veterinary hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hi!.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Toraia?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;What&#8217;s the matter, Nut?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Bolt, Bolt &#8230; &#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;What happened to Bolt?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Yesterday, Yuriko decorated her room with lilies. We often lick our own body and clean up our fur. Wishing that the number of cat companions suffering from<br \/>\npoisoning would be reduced with the smallest sacrifice. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"To_Every_Cat_Owner_of_the_World\"><\/span>To Every Cat Owner of the World<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We, the cats have incomplete UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, one of<br \/>\nthe second\u3000phase enzymes of the liver that is necessary to detoxify<br \/>\nor metabolize fat-soluble\u3000chemical substances such as essential oils.<br \/>\nAs we have lived on meat from remote ages, we might not have needed<br \/>\nthe mechanism to metabolize and detoxify plant components.<br \/>\nBecause of that, even medicines and chemical substances,which are<br \/>\nno harm to other animals,become poisonous to us in many cases.<br \/>\nFor us, especially, essential oils are dangerous chemical substances<br \/>\nmade by condensing plant components artificially.<\/p>\n<p>For humans; they have healing effects,but for us they might be<br \/>\npoisonous.So, please do not use products with essential oils<br \/>\naround us.Please do not use shampoos with essential oils for us.<br \/>\nIn case you practice aromatherapy,please do it after you take<br \/>\nus to separate rooms.<br \/>\nPoisoning may not occur right away,but it gradually develops.<br \/>\nWe do not know when the symptoms appear.<\/p>\n<p>If you are told we are poisoned from an unknown cause, Please look<br \/>\ninto the\u3000possible cause related to essential oils<\/p>\n<p>The vets who take care of us might not know the relation between<br \/>\ncats and\u3000essential oils.If they do not know, please tell them.<br \/>\nVets might recommend the treatment using essential oils.<br \/>\nIn such a case, please ask them about the risk for the treatment.<br \/>\nThe vets who know the risk should give us the treatment, examining<br \/>\nour liver\u3000functions.If you want to give us aromatherapy,\u3000please<br \/>\nselect the products called\u3000hydrosols or Hydrorat.<\/p>\n<p>Different from essential oils, hydrosols consist of almost all<br \/>\nwater-soluble\u3000ingredients, so we can detoxify in comparatively<br \/>\nsafe manner.<br \/>\nBut, please be careful not to use floral water with fragrances<br \/>\nof essential oils. In the same way of aromatherapy treatment<br \/>\ngiven to dogs, please use the minimum amount necessary.<br \/>\nAs well as essential oils, the ingredients of hydrosols have not<br \/>\nbeen fully understood, so the assurance is not 100%.<\/p>\n<p>We used to live on leftovers of humans, but enjoyed our life<br \/>\nwith gourmet foods by catching mice and birds.However, in the<br \/>\npresent living environment, it is actually very painful for us<br \/>\nto live-with humans.<br \/>\nWe have nothing to eat nowadays other than meals given by you.<br \/>\nSo, please, get detailed information about the ingredients of<br \/>\ncat foods you give us, and select food as safe as possible<br \/>\nfor us.We are built to be sensitive for various types of<br \/>\npoisoning, and exposed to the risk of BSE and the bird flu.<\/p>\n<p>And, there is one more thing to ask you.<br \/>\nPlease, do not attempt breeding by your conveniences as<br \/>\nyou do for dogs.<br \/>\nWe hope to keep the present figure forever.<br \/>\nPlease listen seriously to this message from us. Nelly Grosjean,<br \/>\nan active naturopathic therapist based on France, published a French book about<br \/>\nthe therapy. In the following year an English version of the publication titled<br \/>\n&#8216;Veterinary Aromatherapy&#8221; was published and pet aromatherapy spread throughout<br \/>\nthe world.However, the recipes introduced in this book were primarily for the<br \/>\nuse of essential oils for plant-eating horses, and the recipes for humans<br \/>\nhave often been applied to many pet animals, by thinking that they should be<br \/>\nsafe as long as they were diluted.<\/p>\n<p>It has been pointed out from a veterinary&#8217;s point of view that the metabolism<br \/>\nof cats differs from that of other animals, but it was Kristen Leigh Bell who<br \/>\nfirst announced the risk of essential oils for cats in her book from the<br \/>\nposition of aroma therapist. In 2002, in her &#8221;Holistic Aromatherapy For Animals&#8221;<br \/>\n(a Japanese version &#8220;Itoshino Pet Aromatherapy&#8221; was published by Sanga Publishing),<br \/>\nshe first warned against easygoing pet aromatherapy,writing that cats were victimized<br \/>\nby aromatherapy.<\/p>\n<p>I was shocked when Mr. Kanjuro Saito ,an aroma-therapist asked me to translate the<br \/>\n&#8220;Holistic Aromatherapy For Animals.<br \/>\nIn the circle of my veterinary companions, there is multiple number of friends<br \/>\nwho experienced events of catsapparently suffering from poisoning by aroma products.<br \/>\nI said to myself ,&#8221;Cats in the world might be exposed to the danger by the boom of<br \/>\naroma!&#8221; Consequently, together with my husband who devoted himself for animals in zoos,<br \/>\nwe established &#8220;The Japan Animal Aromatherapy Association&#8221; in 2005 and began<br \/>\ndissemination of the information and awareness campaign.<br \/>\nWe have conducted several seminars in the past, and professional aroma therapists<br \/>\nas well as veterinarians participated in the seminars.
